Civilian Defensive Firearms & Tactical Training
We work with individuals and small groups (max 6-8 students) on a customized basis. Instead of posting class schedules with specific curriculum waiting for people to just sign up, each course curriculum is designed to fit the student's skill levels, experience, objectives, and schedule to make the most of training time and cost. Our approach emphasizes continuous learning and development, exactly the way athletes approach training for their sport. We structure our classes to train over the course of months rather than a one-and-done approach, because we know that any physical (and mental) skill requires practice. Concealed Weapon Permit Classes
We focus on civilian defensive tactics and strategies in our CCW classes. We are NOT lawyers, and do NOT offer legal advice. Your defensive firearm is a tool, and defensive tactics, strategies, and knowledge are a must-have if you are going to carry or have a firearm for defense. Developing the skill to use your firearm is the most critical aspect of owning it. All our CCW classes include basic handgun training with live-fire.
FFL Firearms Transfers
Important: Please contact me before ordering a firearm for FFL transfer. This is critical for shipping compliance with federal laws. Fees: $25 per firearm for GCA firearms, $50 per firearm for NFA firearms (silencers, short-barrel rifles, short-barrel shotguns).
Gunsmithing
We provide gunsmithing services for primarily on pistols and rifles, such as repairing malfunctioning firearms, milling optic cuts for pistols, custom fitting barrels, installing sights, and mounting optics and scopes. Contact us for more information on gunsmithing services.
Ultrasonic Gun Cleaning
Ultrasonic gun cleaning uses specialized cleaning solutions to clean your firearm at the microscopic level using a process called cavitation. This process dislodges and removes carbon buildup, powder residue, lead, grease, and other contaminants from even the most inaccessible areas such as blind holes, hard-to-reach pockets, and crevices. Ultrasonic cleaning can be many times more effective than traditional manual cleaning. We include complete disassembly, inspection, and reassembly with every ultrasonic service.

If you are unsure what defensive or tactical firearm is right for you, we can help! Contact us for more information. Depending on availability, we can special order firearms for you. There is no FFL transfer fee for any firearms purchased through FTX Tactical.
About FTX Tactical
My name is John Brooks. I founded FTX Tactical in 2022. I am a former deputy sheriff and served in Patrol as a Field Training Officer and a Defensive Tactics Instructor at the local Police Academy. I also served as the Deputy Observer and EMT for the Sheriff's Helicopter Unit performing ocean and cliff rescue, patrol and SAR operations, and led the Sheriff's volunteer Search and Rescue Unit. I am an NRA certified Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer. Prior to joining the sheriff's department, I was a full-time martial arts instructor. I am passionate about teaching defensive firearms from a civilian perspective. I have a Type 7 FFL and Class II SOT for NFA firearms.
